4200 Series Troubleshooting Guide
Problem:
In a Parallel Centronics configuration, printer is on line and resets for no apparent reason, causing input buffer to clear.

Probable CauseSolution
Input buffer has been cleared by an erroneous signal on Pin 31 of the interface cable. A stray signal is being induced into that line. Pin 31 is used to send a "clear printer buffer"signal to the printer when the computer is reset. If the interface cable is routed close to the paper, it can be exposed to extreme static charges. Check the computer pinouts to see if Pin 31 is used. If not, isolate the pin at the printer end of the interface cable.

If it is used:
a. re-route the cable.
b. cover affected area with grounded foil.
