The ribbon motor circuitry has an overcurrent sensor to detect a motor failure (short). The ribbon motor contains a sensor to detect if the ribbon is bound (not advancing).

Remove ribbon and perform a test print. The ribbon drive motor should rotate. If it fails to rotate, replace the ribbon motor.
If okay, replace the motor driver board.
