4200 Series Troubleshooting Guide
- Problem:
- Constant Mechanical Noise
This noise can be stopped only by turning the printer OFF. A constant mechanical noise indicates a possible problem with the cooling fan. A noise only when the printer is printing indicates a possible printhead carriage, ribbon, or paperfeed problem. This noise may be accompanied by a message relating to a carriage motor error, ribbon motor error, or paper advance problem.
- Inspect the printhead carriage assembly for obstructions. With power OFF, manually advance the carriage to see if movement is free. A printhead may have a print wire snagging the ribbon.
- Turn the ribbon advance knob to inspect the ribbon for any binding on a ribbon guide or print wire. If the ribbon is damaged it must be replaced.
- Visually check for jammed or binding paper. Check for free paper movement in the mechanism.
- Flip paper release lever forward
- Loosen tractor feed flap
- Move paper up/down in the mechanism
