4200 Series Troubleshooting Guide
 Power-On Sequence and Failures
  1. POWER and ON LINE indicators Flash
    Firmware Sequence:
    1. POWER fails to light
    2. ON LINE fails to light


  2. Printer beeps once
    Firmware Sequence:
    1. ROM test
    2. RAM test
    3. Beep #1
    1. Three beeps instead of one
    2. No beep


  3. All indicators light briefly, POWER remains on
    Firmware Sequence:
      Daugher Board Test
    1. Initialize line feed motor (you may see a slight tractor shaft motion)
    2. Waits for digital board communication

      Digital Board Tests
    3. Initialized MFP (multifunctional peripheral IC on digital board)
    4. Configures UART
    5. Sets interrupt vectors
    6. Checks font cartridge (diagnostics)
    7. RAM test
    8. Turns all LEDs on
    9. Clears LCD
    10. Turns all LEDs off except POWER
    1. No indicators light


  4. "Diagnostic Test In Progress"is displayed
    Firmware Sequence:
      Digital Board Tests
    1. Failure displayed on LCD


  5. Printer beeps twice, Setup # and firmware version are displayed
    Firmware Sequence:
      Digital Board Tests
    1. Enable interrupts
    2. EEPROM checksum (if fail, initiate factory reset)/displays any errors
    3. Check EPROM version number (if changed, initiate reset)
    4. Send message to motor controller/establish communication
    5. Check paper out, interlock, paper gap faults, motor faults
    6. EPROM checksum/displays any errors from RAM and EPROM test
    7. Beep #2
    8. Displays "On Line"with version number and setup
    9. Access font cartridge
    10. Check interface slots
    11. Enable selected interface
    12. Beep #3
    1. Fast double-beep with display of error message
    2. Error displayed on LCD
    3. No beep #2
    4. No beep #3


  6. Printheads move to the left
    Firmware Sequence:
      Digital Board and Motor Driver Tests
    1. Motor controller homes printhead carriage
    1. Printhead carriage motor doesn't run


  7. ON LINE indicator lights and remains on, "On Line"and firmware version is displayed
    Firmware Sequence:
      Digital Board Tests
    1. Enable ON LINE indicator and NLQ indicator if selected
    2. Display "On line"and firmware version on the display
    1. ON LINE does not light and "On Line"is not displayed.
