Knowing the difference between 850XL and OTC850
SUBJECT: Knowing the difference between 850XL and OTC850
PRODUCT: 850XL and OTC850
ORIGINATOR: Chris Paxton
DATE: 09/06/99
TECH BULLETIN NO#: 99-850-001

PROBLEM/SYMPTOM:

Determining what parts are used between the two revisions of 850XL printers. By determining which 850 style is being serviced, proper parts can be installed or ordered.

CAUSE:

The current manufactured 850XL, labeled OTC850 on the enclosure, will use different parts than the original 850XL printers. This information will allow you to determine what parts to use in the repair of an OTC850 vrs 850XL.

SOLUTION/PROCEDURE:

If the serial number of your 850 printer is 181139 or Lower, it will contain all original 850 parts listed in the 850XL parts catalog. If your 850XL parts catalog is not dated 1/27/98 or Higher, please download from our web site the updated parts catalog. If your printer serial number is 181593 or Higher, you will find that it is an OTC850. This is a combination of 4100 and standard 850 parts, the 4100 mechanism with 850 logic.
One other way to determine what build level your working on is by the manufactures part number. Part number 048-00228-00 is for older 850 printers. Part number 048-00283-00 is used on all current OTC850 manufactured printers.

SUMMARY:

Use the serial number or manufactures part number to determine what style 850 you are working on.
