This Technical Bulletin covers an error message associated with units containing:

EC V10.30 (Single Sided Controller Boards)

or

EC V1.26 (Dual Sided Controller Boards).

The error message "NEED TONER CUP" is being used to flag two errors:

1. A possible corrupted NVRAM is a recoverable error condition and must be reported to Output Technology's Technical Support Group soon after it occurs.

2. The Toner Cup is not installed, this is the original error message and is generated if the Toner Cup is not installed.

CAUSE:

Code has been added to the EC firmware to correct the corrupted NVRAM conditions produced by NVRAM updates during the power down sequence. When the error message "NEED TONER CUP" appears in the display, this indicates that an illegal operation h as modified the contents of the NVRAM.

These versions of firmware (V10.30 & V1.26) also have the Smart Load process disabled in (S)top (O)n (P)erf modes 0, 1, & 2. SOP modes 4, 5, & 6 are no longer valid.

SOLUTION/PROCEDURE:

Cycle the power to clear the error message.

Print an EXTENDED CONFIGURATION SUMMARY PAGE to be faxed to OUTPUT TECHNOLOGY at fax number (509) 533-1295.

To print and EXTENDED CONFIGURATION SUMMARY PAGE:

Once the printer has come up to the "READY" mode, press the ON LINE key to put the printer OFF LINE. Hold the menu key for more than 10 seconds, or until the "Ext Config Menu" appears, release menu key. Use the MENU key to step through the options until "Print= Summary" in the display. Press the store key to print this page.

This is now the time to verify present settings with those on a previously printed summary sheet. All previous settings have been returned to factory defaults. If narrow forms were being printed on, remember to reduce the Fuser Temp to a 4 or 5 setting.
