Printing of Random Dots
SUBJECT: Printing Of Random Dots.
PRODUCT: LM1000, MODELS 1,3,5,6
ORIGINATOR: Keith Shirley
DATE: 10/21/92
REVISED: 10/06/94
TECH BULLETIN NO: 92-LM1000-147
PROBLEM/SYMPTOM:
Printing of unwanted black dots on the paper.
CAUSE:
Developer:
The doctor blade gap, inside the developer unit, may be too large
allowing the iron particle toner carrier to build up on the sleeve. The
carrier then tends to come in contact with the OPC Drum and causes small
holes to be punched into the OPC drum coating, thus causing small
black dots. The dot pattern will generally appear on either the left or
right side of the paper.
Continuing to print with a "TONER LOW"message can aggravate the
condition and cause the metal carrier to transfer to the OPC drum. "DO
NOT"keep printing, add toner to the developer unit.
OPC Drum:
Foreign material such as paper dust or paper chaff may become trapped
between the drum roller and the seal.
SOLUTION/PROCEDURE:
Developer:
In the event that toner is not low and unwanted black dots are
appearing on the page, the "Developer Unit"and "OPC Drum"may need to be
replaced. If the CRU's (Customer Replaceable Units) are under warranty,
their replacement can be coordinated directly with Output Technology
Corporation. Print a summary page from the extended configuration menu
and contact Output Technology "Customer Technical Services". You will
receive a RMA number to return the items to the factory. The units will
be either repaired, replaced, or prorated based on the respective foot counts.
If it is an emergency situation and there is not a developer unit
readily available, the doctor blade can sometimes be adjusted. However,
this is a very sensitive adjustment. See technical bulletin number
92-LM1000-148 for the procedure.
OPC Drum:
Remove the OPC Drum from the unit and run a business card or similar
material between the roller and the mylar seal. This should remove any
foreign matter that may have been caught between the OPC Drum and seal,
which could have allowed toner to sprinkle down onto the paper.
CAUTION:
When returning the "Developer Unit"or "OPC Drum"make sure that it is
SEALED within adequate packaging to prevent toner leakage/contamination.
Return parts in a proper shipping container to prevent shipping
damage.
Note: Page counts are required with all parts being returned under
warranty.
