PROBLEM/SYMPTOM:

During the replacement process of a Main Logic Board (EUROLINE Digital Controller), compatibility considerations must be made. Versions of Digital Boards, Motor Controller Boards, (Serial, TWINAX, & COAX Interface) firmware, NVRAM, Digital Board firmware, and Motor Controller firmware are covered in this document.

SOLUTION/PROCEDURE:

MAIN LOGIC BOARD (DIGITAL CONTROLLER)& MOTOR CONTROLLER (MC):

The Main Logic Board, P/N 040-00080-XX is shipped in a kit with the motor controller board (OTC part number 040-00077-XX) attached. The OTC part number for this kit is 046-00242-XX. At the current time the firmware is not included in this kit.

The following compatibility information applies to all current versions of Digital Controller Boards that may be in field operation (040-00080-02), (040-00080-03) & (040-00080-04).

The Main Logic Board, P/N 040-00080-02 can be used in all applications except where Dataproducts interface is being used. This version of Main Logic Board may exhibit a contention problem on the Dataproducts port, unless proper firmware is used.

(a) The EPROM set for this board must be the FOUR chip set. (b) The NVRAM for this board must be the 24 pin (Dallas 1220 or equivalent)

The Main Logic Board, P/N 040-00080-03 corrects the contention problem on the Dataproducts port, but current firmware must be used. (a) The EPROM set for this board must be the FOUR chip set. (b) The NVRAM for this board must be the 24 pin (Dallas 1220 or equivalent) The Main Logic Board, P/N 040-00080-04 has jumpers installed to allow the use of various size NVRAMs and EPROMs. Reference the attached Digital Board diagram. Figure 2.

(a) The EPROM set for this board can be either the TWO chip set or the FOUR chip set, jumper selection allows the use of either size EPROM.

(a1) To select two 128K X 8 (27C010) EPROMS (in positions U2044 [E] and U2045 [C]) jumper JP2003 and JP2004 from pin 2 to pin 3.

(a2) To select four 64K X 8 (27C512) EPROMS (in positions U2044 [E], U2045 [C], U2046 [F] & U2047 [D]) jumper JP2003 and JP2004 from pin 1 to pin 2.

(b) The NVRAM can be either the 24 pin (Dallas 1220 or equivalent) OR the 28 pin (Dallas 1225 or 1230, or equivalent), jumper selection allows the use of either size NVRAM.

(b1) To select 2K X 8 NVRAM (Dallas 1220 or equivalent) jumper JP2008 from pin 1 to pin 2, and JP2009 from pin 2 to pin 3.

(b2) To select 8K X 8 NVRAM (Dallas 1225 or 1230, or equivalent) jumper JP2008 from pin 2 to pin 3, and JP2009 from pin 1 to pin 2.

MOTOR DRIVER: Board number, for identification, 040-00078-XX This board is OBSOLETE do not use. 040-00087-XX 4240/4260 ONLY. 040-00128-XX 4280 ONLY.

PRINTHEAD DRIVER Board number, for identification, is 040-00079-XX.

SERIAL INTERFACE: The firmware on the Serial Interface board is V3.04 or later, P/N 043-00040-03. The V3.02 was updated to V3.04 to handle a possible loss of data sent to the printer before the interface was selected. Board number, for identification, is 040-00035-XX.

TWINAX INTERFACE: The firmware on the TWINAX Interface board is V2.31 or later, P/N 043-00121-00A. Board number, for identification, is 040-00044-XX.

COAX INTERFACE: The firmware on the COAX Interface board is V1.04 or later, P/N 043-00054-00E. The V1.03 was updated to V1.04 to cover a possible printer lock up problem. The lock up would occur if the printer was taken off line while a setup string was being sent from the coax interface. If setup strings were not sent to the printer controller properly, this may also cause the printer to print the character 'A' with a Form Feed. Board numbers, for identification, are 040-00043-XX & 040-00046-XX.

NVRAM:

DIGITAL BOARD & MOTOR CONTROLLER FIRMWARE: There are two sections here to cover two possible combinations:
PART A: Printers with Main Logic Firmware Version 1.12 & MC V1.03.
PART B: Printers with Main Logic Firmware Version V2.01 or Later & Motor Controller V2.00 or Later.

PART A: EUROLINE printers with Main Logic Firmware V1.12.

The Motor Control Firmware (MC PROM) was updated from V1.03 to V1.10.

This firmware was modified to increase the reliability of ribbon drive motor shut down when a ribbon jams. This added sensitivity will better protect the ribbon motor spline during a ribbon jam condition.

NOTE: To upgrade to Main Logic Firmware Version 2.01 or greater, the Main Logic Controller Board must be 040-00080-03 or greater. V1.12 Main Logic Firmware IS NOT COMPATIBLE to Main Logic Controller 040-00080-03 or greater.

Motor Control Firmware

- (MC PROM) was updated from V2.00 to V2.01. This firmware was modified to increase the reliability of ribbon drive motor shut down when a ribbon jams. This added sensitivity will better protect the ribbon motor spline during a ribbon jam condition.

- (MC PROM) was updated to V3.01 to correct a Top Of Form problem during a paper out condition. This Firmware level also corrected a Left & Right Margin Drifting problem. This Firmware also corrected a Paper Out Switch Bounce problem.

Motor Control Firmware V2.01 is OBSOLETE and no longer available.

Main Logic Firmware

- (Main Logic PROM SET) was updated from V2.01 to V3.00.
This firmware was modified to add the Ribbon Jam Sensitivity Adjust option, under the heading 'RIBBON' in the configuration menu. This version also supports those MC PROM changes in V3.01.

- (Main Logic PROM Set) was upgraded to V3.01 to correct a continuous From Feed from power up.

Main Logic Firmware V2.01 is OBSOLETE and no longer available.
