Carriage Tachometer Error on LCD Display
SUBJECT: Carriage Tachometer Error on LCD Display
PRODUCT: EUROLINE - 4240, 4260, 4280.
ORIGINATOR: Chad Fogus
DATE: 01/02/2001
TECH BULLETIN NO#:
PROBLEM/SYMPTOM:
"Carrg Tachometer Err" message displayed on 42xx Euroline
printer
CAUSE:
3/4 amp fuse installed on motor driver board. If the ribbon
motor draws too much current during a print job: the processor
is looking at the tachometer signal from the carriage motor,
and the motor slows down, causing the Carr Tach Err to be
displayed.
SOLUTION/PROCEDURE:
If after confirming the printer's motor pulley, drive belt,
motor cabling, tachometer cabling; and measurements with
an ohm meter between the power input terminals of the carriage
motor shows no signs of failure, the fuse on motor driver
board may be the cause.
SUMMARY:
Some motor driver boards, for the 4240 and 4260 Euroline
printers, part number 040-00087-02, were released with a
3/4 amp fuse. These boards function with any older ribbon
motors. The vendor of the ribbon drive motor, part number
046-00265-00, changed the internal specifications of the
unit, making it necessary for a one amp fuse to be used
in place of the 3\4 amp fuse. Currently part number 040-00128-03
(42xx motor driver board) works with all Euroline printer
models. The fuse is not user replaceable; it requires a
repair by a certified repair technician. Call OTC Technical
Support for further information about repair and warranty
verification.
